India first indigenous built engine-less train is seen doing trial runs ahead of its launch. The train is built by Integral Coach Factory (ICF) looks like a bullet train. The train is expected to reach speed of 160. There are two trains set to launch, one is 2018 and one in 2020. The train which will be launched in 2018 will be named Train 18 and the one which will be launched in 2020 may be called Train 20.
The train is a self-propelled train and does not require locomotive engine. The train may be used as replacement of Shatabdi express which is used for short commutes. Train 18 will be fully air conditioned train and shall be equipped with GPS, automatic doors and comfortable seating. The trail will have rapid acceleration and will be equipped with electro-pneumatic regenerative breaking.
Train 18 will be unveiled on Oct 29th and is expected to to have 16 Coaches where the driver coach will have 44 seats and subsequent coaches may have 78 seats. The train will have two executive coaches in between which will have 52 seats per coach.
Integral Coach Factory will be doing trials for few days and then the train will be handed over to Research Design and Standards Organisation (RDSO) for further trials. The prototype was built at approximate cost of 100 Crores and cost will reduce subsequently as and when more trains a
